Taqramiut Nipingat Inc. is mourning the loss of Ellashuk Pauyungie

Kuujjuaq, Quebec, December 10, 2014- Taqramiut Nipingat Inc.’s board of directors and employees are deeply saddened by the passing of Ellashuk Pauyungie.  Ellashuk died in her sleep on December 7 2014, in Salluit, Quebec. Ellashuk was an employee of TNI from December 1,1986 until she retired on June 29, 2012. But wouldn’t you know that she came back to work at TNI 4 days later, to start her Gospel show once a week, every Tuesday evening.

Ellashuk was very down to earth. Eva Aulaluk had hired her back in the fall of 1986, at which time there were no computers, only old radio equipment that used mediums such as cassettes, reel to reel and LPS. Ellashuk did not have any formal schooling, and although she did not know anything about radio production or any of the equipment used in radio production, she learned. And with time, she eventually was able to produce shows on her own.   She worked hard to achieve her goals and in the end, she succeeded.  By the time she was retired, she was able to do some computer work! She was a lady who worked hard to her last days trying to improve life for others through public relations and volunteer work.  Although she had to go through difficult cultural changes, she was well adapted to today’s modern ways and became a well-known and well-respected radio host.  She will be surely missed by the TNI team and the entire Nunavik population.

Ellashuk will be deeply missed by the TNI team, having been an employee of TNI for nearly 30 years.  Our deepest sympathies go out to Ellashuk’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.
